Nic Compton was deputy editor and then editor of Classic Boat from 1996 to 2000. Before that, he spent an idyllic childhood living on boats in the Mediterranean, eventually returning to the UK to take a degree in English in 1984. He completed a Diploma in Periodical Journalism (specialising in the Environment) at City University in 1992. For the past 10 years, he has travelled the world as a freelance writer/photographer, contributing to a variety of magazines. He was editor of the Official Book of the America's Cup Jubilee in 2001 and has written 11 books, including seven on boating and two (co-authored) on economics. He recently completed an MA in Global Political Economy at Sussex University. He currently lives in Brighton, UK, from where he sails a 25ft Cheverton Caravel.
